This update brings three major enhancements...
1. new and improved trackers, expanding our original food system to be able to detect dozens of new metrics with one simple interface: the camera. This can be used to start logging many new metrics like Dexa scans, body temperature, blood pressure, blood levels, and more. You can also measure your physical and mental strength directly in the app with new benchmarks.
2. new reports to see exactly what’s happening inside your body. The old reports like Health Score have been made even smarter and simpler, and we’ve also introduced new analytics and insights that go deeper into your biology. Whether your goal is longevity, muscle building, fat loss or something else, these will give you the full visibility you need to be successful and early warnings to avoid potentially serious issues later.
3. an upgraded superintelligent coach to watch over all your metrics and keep you accountable. Last year we launched the world’s first AI coach, and this year we have upgraded its memory and capabilities to be more than 10x more powerful. Now it can send you messages through the day, hop on a call, review your data, and much more. In V9, your coach can do more actions, see more history and has an enhanced focus system to help you truly master one thing at a time.
New & improved trackers
The first versions of Gyroscope allowed people to get all their data in one place for the first time—not just simple metrics like steps, but detailed insights about your life and what is happening each day.
This version expands on all our original trackers like places, travels, mood, productivity, sleep—with even more trackers and easy ways to log. Now from the new + button, you can easily input and review your latest metrics across all categories—glucose, blood pressure, brain status, fitness metrics, steps, sleep battery, and dozens of other key metrics.
Some trackers are automated so you just have to set it up once and have constant background syncing, while some take a few taps to log and can be easily entered from the + button.

We pioneered photo-based food tracking over 5 years ago with our original Gyroscope X program—the first truly accurate and sustainable habit. Now many other apps are jumping on the bandwagon, but Gyroscope remains the best and most accurate way to track your food—backed by millions of meals logged and the most advanced technology that is constantly learning and evolving as you use it.
You can also log supplements and drinks like water, coffee, tea, even alcohol. In this version, your advanced timers are automatically calculated and kept up to date, letting you easily see your fasting timeline or how many days it has been since you had alcohol.
The camera goes far beyond calories, giving detailed macronutrients, micronutrients, grades and insights instantly, all from your unified coach and tailored to your particular targets, blood levels and even genetics. For one person, having a coffee in the afternoon may not be a big deal because they are a fast metabolizer, while for someone else that amount could strongly disrupt their sleep. Now your coach sees the big picture, and helps you balance these thousands of variables to live a fully optimized life.
With this update, we are going beyond just logging meals.
Grocery shopping? Snap a picture of your aisle or options to get a personalized suggestion. At a restaurant? Just take a photo of the food menu to get an order tailored to fit your targets—or an option for more fun. Trying to decide what to make for dinner? Just snap a photo of what is in your fridge for a custom recipe. All these insights are just a tap away—no more browsing around or needing to pick what tool you want. Just snap a photo.
Sync at the speed of light
Getting a checkup? You can even take a photo of a blood pressure monitor, thermometer, DEXA scan, scale or blood level report to instantly import it into the app. Some devices connect to Apple Health or save into Gyroscope, but many others didn’t or don’t have digital integrations or internet connectivity. Now with G1, every device is a smart device—with instant electromagnetic syncing now handling millions of devices, without having to pay 10x more for the digital or bluetooth version.
Not everything can be quantifed. The number on a scale or blood pressure meter can be useful, but doesn’t always tell the full story. Maybe you gained some muscle and the number on the scale went up. Now you can also log photos directly to your history—especially progress photos to see changes in your body over time.
Especially if you want to optimize how you look, then tracking that can be particularly useful. Seeing the changes after a few months of focus can be a strong motivator too—and after a few weeks or months on the new bodyfat protocol, you will definitely be able to see visible changes.
Measure your true fitness
Good health is not just about weighing less on the scale. Until recently, measures like pounds or BMI were the only numbers that most people had access to, so they were what everyone fixated on.
So it is unfortunate but understandable, that in this old system everyone would keep gaining and losing weight (generally by simply cutting calories), while every year their health and imporatnt metrics keep slipping unnoticed.
Now there is a better way. By monitoring and maintaining the precursors to your weight, you can focus on the future instead of just damage control. Instead of spending all your effort trying to reverse weight gain, you can keep your weight stable and your body healthy—and then spend that effort on proactive upgrades.
It is like if you were living in a house, and every few weeks something would catch fire, or water would start leaking in the roof. This would be very stressful, and also make it impossible to focus on small things like decoration or ambiance or being productive. Setting up Gyroscope is like installing an alarm system and security system and being able to avoid those kind of surprises, giving you the peace of mind and capacity to do more proactive and positive improvements like maintenance and enhancing your living conditions.
Well, your body is exactly like the house that your brain and consciousness live in. If you can upgrade it and keep it strong and secure, then you can have a really great and comfortable experience.
What gets measured, gets managed
How can you manage this complex system? People used to believe it took dozens of complex supplements and medications, but often it can be done naturally with the right inputs.
Now we are redefining the equation, with the new numbers you should focus on: your Health Score, your strength and longevity benchmarks, your brain function. These will replace pounds and BMI over the next few years as the numbers everyone should know and be focused on. Getting these numbers into great ranges proactively will put you on track for long-term success, much more than simply losing a few pounds.
The bad news here is that most of these things naturally decline with age if not maintained. As a teenager, your body is in peak condition but then every year after that, the systems that are not being actively used and maintained will start to decay. However, this is not inevitable, and with the right habits aging can be delayed significantly or in some cases even reversed.
The app now includes new benchmarks to measure your brain and physical strength in one place. Instead of just hearing about these numbers on some podcast based on some study, now you can see what your own values are and see realtime changes. All are now easy to track from the unified + button!
Not just for your muscles
Now you can keep track of your essential brain function, and maintain it even as you get older. When you hear about studies of the effect of supplements or habits on brain function, these are the actual ways they often measure these.
The new app contains a battery of psychological tests and benchmarks, designed to instrument your brain like never before. In addition to your mood tracking, now you can track changes in your reaction speed, focus and other key markers.
These systems generally work well when we are young, but can deteriorate with aging or diseases. If there are any signs of reduced brain function, you can detect it sooner and find ways to keep it strong.

Our founding principle for Gyroscope is that by actually seeing in realtime what is happening with your body, people can make better decisions. Not just some short-term diet to do when losing weight, but an essential utility for any responsible human adult to correctly manage their body. Only with this information can the thousands of decisions you are making every day be truly informed and aligned with your goals. Otherwise, people are just flying blind.
We have started to see this now that the technology exists. For many years, people knew that sleep was important and alcohol was not great, but it didn’t really feel real. The problem that Gyroscope is trying to fix is a simple one: You only get one body—one brain, one heart, one liver—and you are responsible for keeping them in good condition.

However, despite these high stakes and importance, none of this is taught in school. Almost no one really knows how to actually live and maintain these complex systems. Until very recently, none of this was monitored. Even now, there are countless arguments about how to do it. Without real data or feedback loops, it is very easy to run on superstitions or old habits. Even if you are doing the healthy habits recommended, real data is useful to know if you are on track.
It would be like getting a fancy high-end sports car, but then not knowing that it needed oil changes, or how to fill up the gas, or any other basic maintenance—and just leaving it up to chance that you are able to guess those things and do them correctly. Or driving around in an unknown neighborhood with no GPS or map, just hoping you are going in the right direction.
At Gyroscope, we believe in humanity. People can do amazing things, if given the right tools and information. But until now, most people have been flying blind. So it is no surprise that so many people are in terrible health. If you do something but don’t notice any negative or positive effects for 10 years, it will be very hard to find connections or improve your internal decision making.
To make matters worse, big companies have taken advantage of this to sell things that are terrible for your health—social media, junk food, fast food, alcohol. And all these have been optimized to be as addictive as possible. It has gotten to the point where just taking care of your body properly is considered a “diet” or short-term fad, and eating junk food or destroying your health is considered “normal.”

We’ve designed and improved our Fat Loss Protocol to cut through the noise and bring sustainable results to everyone.
Previous methods aren’t completely wrong, they’re just incomplete. Tracking calories in databases will tend to lead to short term weight loss, but when people stop tracking and restricting calories they quickly gain back the weight. Crash dieting and restrictive diets? Same thing. In fact, around 80% of people who lose weight through dieting regain it within 5 years. Put on your headphones and have a realtime voice call with your coach, just like you would a real human. Your coach can now reference your latest data while on the call, and give you actionable insights towards your goals, or just chat about how you are doing.

The new core of the app experience is the daily routine—now you can do a checkin every morning to quickly review yesterday’s data, sync sleep and mood, check in with your coach and more—all in one streamlined flow, and all fully personalized and guided by your coach.
Optionally, you can extend this process to a custom daytime and evening routine, too. Each step is now personalizable, so you can design your ideal day from scratch—choosing when and where you want to do healthy habits like meditation, journaling, data reviews. Simple reminders for things like logging supplements or other habits from the Labs can also be installed in this flow.

Everyone is unique, and you can tailor your coaching experience exactly how you want it. (Or try different variations and find out what works best).
We have chosen some good defaults that should work well, but this is not a one-size fits all solution.
People are very different in terms of how they can handle information, feedback, strictness, and more. Some people may want messages every hour pushing them to improve, while others may find that too stressful and need a more relaxed approach. Some people may want to know the science of their exact gene expression and neurotransmitters, while others may find that too confusing and just want a simple focus of what to do.
