Interview with Thom
Hey Thom, great to connect! Can you tell us a bit about yourself…
Hi, I’m Thom. I work in cybersecurity and run three companies out of Oxford, UK, while being the 'support crew' for my wife’s cinematography business.
To unwind, I chase around my two kids (5yo and 9mo) and have recently taken up puppeteering. I started doing it to make the little ones laugh, but I think I’m actually enjoying the sock puppets more than they are! I definitely don't cook to relax, mostly because I possess the rare talent of burning cornflakes.
That’s definitely not your average hobby, but we love it, as we’re sure your kids do too! So how did you come across Gyroscope and what got you started?
I joined the ranks back in 2018 looking for the Fountain of Youth answer - Captain Jack Sparrow style. I wanted to lose body fat and optimise my longevity, but I needed data to do it.
As a massive data nerd, my main reason for staying is that Gyroscope quantifies the invisible parts of my life. It gives me the raw stats I need to keep my 'system' running. That and the peace of mind for easily digestible reports.
“ It stopped me from flying blind. With the stress of running businesses and raising kids with my wife, I used to default to stress-eating and snacking. Gyroscope gave me the “why” behind the data”

Glad to hear you are finding all the data useful. How has Gyroscope exactly helped you achieve your goals?
It stopped me from flying blind. With the stress of running businesses and raising kids with my wife, I used to default to stress-eating and snacking. Gyroscope gave me the 'why' behind the data - showing me exactly how caffeine and sugar were destroying my recovery. Thanks to those insights, I’m now drinking 3 litres of water a day, fighting off the dad-bod, and feeling healthier in mind, body, and soul than I have in years.
What's been your favorite aspect or feature so far, and why?
The Health Score. As a tech guy, I’ve always wanted my own J.A.R.V.I.S., and this is the closest I can get without building an Iron Man suit. It's a lot cheaper too. Seeing all my biometrics aggregated in one futuristic interface makes staying healthy feel like high-tech system maintenance rather than a boring chore, I attribute this health score to being my key holistic overview of my body and mind.
What are the biggest challenges you continue to face on your quest for the fountain of youth?
Sleep debt is my nemesis. With a 9-month-old and a 5-year-old, 'rest' is often a foreign concept. I’m constantly fighting the sleep debt, but Gyroscope keeps me honest about it - reminding me that I can’t just caffeinate my way out of a bad night’s sleep (as much as I try).
Water has been proven to work, in my eyes, with my own data - not with some third-party studies.
If you were to describe Gyroscope in a couple sentences, what would you say?
It’s a comprehensive operating system for your body that turns biological data into actionable insights. It takes the chaos of modern life and turns it into a video game you actually want to win... without having to think too much about it.
