Case Study

Joe

On X over 100 days, down 13lbs and more balanced energy

Joe, based in Texas, lost 13lbs and 5% bodyfat (so far!) on Gyroscope Coach. Through working with his coach, Ollie, Joe is learning to eat more high quality foods, incorporate impactful workouts, as well fasting and meditation. Joe is finding that he is not, in fact, a "hangry" person, but his energy crashes are from unbalanced nutrition choices. His sugar intake is decreasing and his fasting times are increasing. Joe's health is improving, he's feeling good and is excited for his upcoming Roadmap chapter geared for muscle building.

I've never had a more personalized feeling from a plan before.

Joe’s healthscore has improved from a low 60's average to a high 90's using Gyroscope.

Joe lost over 13lbs since joining X.

Joe’s bodyfat percentage was increasing up until he joined X in December 2020. Since then Joe’s bodyfat is decreasing at a healthy rate.

X is different from anything I've used in the past because I can take a picture of food and forget about it.

Interview with Joe

What has changed with your body or lifestyle since starting with X?

The facts I've learned from the weekly insights from my coach have really changed how I eat daily. I found that I wasn't actually a hangry person, I just wasn't eating right.

Joe’s sugar intake has decreased in the last 3 months on X.

Joe’s fasting time increased to a 16 hours average in the last 3 months since joining X.

What makes X special?

X is different from anything I've used in the past because I can take a picture of food and forget about it. I often got bogged down in the details of entering in food and trying to be as precise as possible and it just overwhelmed me. Being paired with a coach that I talk to and meet online face-to-face makes it feel personal.

What part of your roadmap are you most excited for?

I'm most excited for the Muscle Building chapter, but honestly the most helpful section has been the Quality chapter since that sets the foundation of a healthy lifestyle.

What is special about your experience with your coach?

Ollie is a great guy, he takes your wellness and exercise plan seriously and I appreciate it. He is extremely knowledgeable and any questions/suggestions I have are custom tailored to me.

What features of Gyroscope have been most integral to your success?

As far as Gyroscope base features go, being able to just connect my devices and forget about it has been the best. I talked to the developer and there's even smart un-duplication if a couple of your devices track the same thing! (e.g. Apple Watch and Oura both track HRV). My favorite part is the graphs and data which my inner-nerd super happy!

What is your favorite Gyroscope Coach feature?

Taking pictures of your food and not having to worry about the logging of all the data.

What would you say to people who may be on the fence about joining X?

I've never had a more personalized feeling from a plan before. They constantly keep you engaged. Have a question about food? Send a message. Not sure you're doing something right? Send a video message. Not sure a workout is working for you? Your coach will replace it with another one.

One of the biggest factors in Joe's success has been his incredible effort to change his dietary choices for the better, following the advice given in the insights and being consistent with his changes.

Interview with Ollie, Joe’s coach!

What methods did you find worked well for helping Joe with his health goals?

One of the biggest factors in Joe's success has been his incredible effort to change his dietary choices for the better, following the advice given in the insights and being consistent with his changes. This is even more impressive as we started over Thanksgiving! We began with improving protein, veggies and fiber intake, moving onto portion control and then onto intermittent fasting, which he really took too.

Did your coaching approach with Joe change since you started working together, and if so, how?

My coaching approach started with just building awareness and routines. With diet, it was about education, slowly improving nutrient intake to build good habits that we could expand upon and that Joe can sustain, long-term.

With exercise, we were starting from the ground up, so building a routine was more important that anything else. We began with two days a week, then moved to three, and now Joe has brand new kettlebells and is about to embark on phase 3 of his new strength training journey. His consistency with training has been 100% - consistency always pays.

Why did you choose the specific sections for Joe's roadmap? What are you focusing on now?

I chose to focus on diet and exercise first as these were tantamount to Joe's primary goals of losing 10–15 lbs and building a training regime. Diet, in particular, is a pillar of health that cannot be ignored. Ensuring the fundamentals of good nutrition is key.

Once you have strong foundations, you can start to build… We now have quite a good flow going with nutrition and exercise, so we are exploring meditation, something quite new for Joe and he's really going for it. His interest in trying new things is inspiring and I'm excited to see where this part of the journey takes us!
