How it works
Emerging research suggests that the Montmorency cherry (aka tart cherry), a popular sour-tasting fruit that originated in France, could help you get a better night’s sleep. Studies have shown that drinking this juice or taking it in supplement form, could help adults fall asleep faster and extend their sleeping time. One study showed an average increase of 84 minutes! There are two reasons why this may be the case: 1- Tart cherries are a natural source of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin. 2- Proanthocyanidins, which give this food its bright red color, can help increase the presence of tryptophan, an essential amino acid. The brain converts tryptophan into serotonin, which helps us sleep.
