The Gyroscope Desktop App puts your dashboard, your coach and your Daily Report on the big screen.

It stays running on your Mac through the day, so it also keeps track of your computer time and adds it to the rest of your health data. Setup takes a few minutes.

Install it

You need an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or newer) with macOS 14 or later.

  1. Sign in on gyrosco.pe, open the Desktop page and choose the download button.
  2. Open the file you downloaded and drag Gyroscope into your Applications folder.
  3. Open Gyroscope from Applications and sign in with your email or username. Use your password, or have a 6-digit code emailed to you.

Keep it in Applications. Starting with your Mac and the Mac permissions only work for the copy installed there.

Updates download in the background. When one is ready, choose Restart and Install.

The Desktop App is currently in early testing. If you have access, the Desktop page shows the download button.

Turn on computer tracking

The first time you open the app, it offers computer tracking. Choose Turn on, then switch between a few apps and watch it follow along. From then on, Gyroscope starts when you log in to your Mac.

App tracking works right away, with no Mac permission. It records which app is in front and for how long. A few optional steps add more detail, in the Finish setup checklist under Computer Tracking:

  • Website domains show which websites you use in Safari, Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera and Vivaldi. Open a website in each browser once and allow Gyroscope when your Mac asks.
  • Window context adds the title of the window you are using. Open Accessibility in System Settings and turn on Gyroscope. Window titles stay on your Mac.
  • Start with your Mac brings tracking back after a restart.

Gyroscope never takes screenshots or records keystrokes. From a browser, it keeps the site name only.

If you skipped the offer, the Computer tab has the same setup at the top. Already use RescueTime? The app offers to switch you over, and your RescueTime history stays.

Gyroscope keeps a G in your menu bar, and tracking keeps going after you close the window.

  • Open Dashboard brings the app back. The Dock icon does too.
  • Your tracked time for today shows right in the menu.
  • Pause Tracking for 15 minutes, an hour, a day, or until you resume.
  • Quit Gyroscope & Tracking stops tracking until you open the app again.

When your Mac sits idle, tracking stops counting after 3 minutes. You can change that to 1, 5 or 10 minutes under Away detection in the Computer Tracking advanced settings.

Six things to try

Talk to your coach on the big screen

The Coach tab opens with a summary of your day and a next step. Start typing anywhere on the page and it jumps into the chat. Enter sends, and Shift+Enter adds a new line.

Your coach looks through your sleep, food, workouts, labs and computer time while it answers, and you can watch it work. It can log for you too, so just tell it “Log two eggs and toast for breakfast.”

Open the Daily Report for any day

Choose Today on the day summary at the top of the Coach tab. The Daily Report opens in its own window: how you slept, what you ate, how you moved and what your coach suggests next.

Use the date picker at the top to jump to any day, or the left and right arrow keys to step through them one at a time.

Make your digital twin

The You tab puts a 3D model of your body at the center. Hover over the heart, brain or liver to see the blood markers, gauges and benchmarks behind it.

Open Scene settings, the sliders at the top right, to change the background, the body color and the style, from Aqua to Holo to Blueprint. Under Model, pick the body type that matches you best. It is the same choice as the Digital Twin page in your settings, and with Max you can make a custom scan of your own body.

Put a dashboard on a second screen

The You tab also has boards of widgets. In Scene settings, choose Customize dashboards to pick the boards you want, like Today, Sleep, Training, Food, Longevity or Focus.

Turn on Autocycle and the app moves to the next board every minute. Leave it open on a second display for a live dashboard of your body at your desk. Or flip through the boards yourself with the left and right arrow keys.

The Custom board is yours to build, with the widgets you want front and center.

See your computer time next to your phone time

The Computer tab is your Digital Health dashboard. It puts your Mac and your iPhone side by side, with your top apps for today, yesterday and the last 7 days.

Click any app to see its time day by day, its sessions and, for browsers, the websites. Your focus and computer time also count toward your Health Score.

Fly around your Places globe

The Places tab starts in space and flies down to your planet. Your passport shows your lifetime miles, days logged, cities and countries. Pick a city to see its artwork, the routes you flew and the places you go most, lit up on a 3D map.

More tips

  • The Health tab has every trend on one screen, from your Health Score and biological age to sleep, workouts, bodyfat and blood. Each trend opens in its own window.
  • Your Food page is in the menu at the top right, with your food grade and today’s nutrients.
  • Hover over a tab at the top to switch to it.
  • Esc finishes a chat with your coach.

If something looks off

  • Tracking stops after a restart. Turn on Start with your Mac in the Finish setup checklist, and allow Gyroscope if your Mac asks.
  • Websites are missing. Open a website in that browser and allow the prompt. If you said no earlier, open Automation in System Settings and allow Gyroscope for that browser.
  • Window titles are missing. Open Accessibility in System Settings and turn on Gyroscope.
  • The app asks you to update. Install the update to keep using it.
