Does Dexcom G7 work with Gyroscope?

Yes, through Apple Health. We get your full glucose series from Dexcom G7, and the same from G6 and Stelo, with Dexcom’s three-hour delay. Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre usually does not work, because its apps do not save to Apple Health.

Apple HealthData fit: 4/5

Turn on Apple Health in the Dexcom app and Gyroscope reads the Blood Glucose records it writes. The delay is Dexcom’s design, so the Dexcom app stays your source for live readings and alerts.

Applies to: Dexcom G7, G6, and Stelo. Not FreeStyle Libre 2 or 3 without a third-party app that copies readings into Apple Health.

What we get

  • Glucose readingsThe full series, under Apple Health’s Blood Glucose category.

What stays behind

  • Real-time readings and alertsApple Health receives readings three hours late and no alert events.
  • Trend arrows and sensor statusStay in the Dexcom app.

How to set it up

  1. Turn on Apple Health in the Dexcom app. In the Dexcom G7 app tap Connections, Apple Health, Activate, then turn on Blood Glucose and tap Allow, following Dexcom’s official steps. Stelo uses Settings, Connections per its FAQ. In Apple’s Health app, open Sharing, Apps, Dexcom and confirm Blood Glucose write access is on.
  2. Connect Gyroscope to Apple Health. Open Gyroscope, open your data sources, choose Apple Health, and tap Allow for every category when iOS asks. If you skipped one, go to iPhone Settings, Health, Data Access and Devices, Gyroscope, and turn it on there.
  3. Check your dashboard. Once a day with about 11 or more readings has synced, the glucose view switches on and you should see the curve for each day beside your meals and steps.

What you can do with it

You do not need to be diabetic for this to matter.

Most people who wear a sensor for the first time find meals that send them far higher than they expected, and the meals differ from person to person.

The evidence. Hall et al., PLOS Biology, 2018. Continuous monitoring of people with normal glucose tests found frequent spikes into prediabetic and diabetic ranges. Zeevi et al., Cell, 2015, found the response to identical meals varied widely between 800 people.

Insider tipLog meals from a photo with Food XRAY and the spike lines up with what caused it. Then run glucose against last food time in the correlations view.

Walk after the meals that spike you.

Ten minutes on your feet after eating flattens the curve more than the same walk at any other time of day.

The evidence. Reynolds et al., Diabetologia, 2016. Walking for 10 minutes after each meal lowered post-meal glucose by about 12% compared with a single 30-minute walk at another time. Buffey et al., Sports Medicine, 2022, found the same effect from light walking in healthy adults.

Insider tipSteps against glucose is one of the clearest correlations in Gyroscope. Set the window to the two hours after a meal and the effect is obvious within a week.

The delay is not a problem for insight.

Gyroscope is for looking back at the day, not for treating a low. Keep the Dexcom app for alerts and use Gyroscope to see what the day did to the curve.

The evidence. Garg et al., Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics, 2022. In Dexcom’s pivotal trial, G7 had an overall MARD of 8.2% against laboratory reference, accurate enough that trends and meal responses are trustworthy.

Insider tipCompare curves, not single points. A reading at one moment can be a few percent off; the shape of two hours after a meal is not.

Check sleep against the night-time curve.

Late meals show up as a raised overnight baseline, and a raised overnight baseline shows up as a worse night. Both are on the same timeline.

Insider tipRun last food time against sleep score. The lag is usually zero, meaning the same night.

Ask your coach which meals to change.

With a membership, an AI coach reads this data every morning and writes you a report before you are out of bed. It answers from your own numbers, not from generic advice. Ask which meals spike you most and it answers from the curve and your logged food. Health Score shows how your nutrition grade feeds your overall longevity estimate.

Common questions

Does FreeStyle Libre work with Gyroscope?

Usually not. Abbott’s Libre apps do not save glucose to Apple Health, and its support FAQ confirms Libre Assist does not integrate with Apple Health. Only a third-party app that copies readings into Apple Health makes it work.

Why is my glucose three hours behind?

By design. Dexcom’s official FAQ says Apple Health receives readings after three hours, not in real time.

Can Gyroscope replace the Dexcom app?

No. Gyroscope is not a medical device. Keep the Dexcom app for alerts and treatment decisions.

Why do I not see a glucose view yet?

It switches on automatically once a day has roughly 11 or more readings. Confirm Blood Glucose records are arriving in Apple Health, then allow a full day to sync.
