How to track your nutrition with ChatGPT and Claude

Updated October 17, 2026

Short answer

Connect Gyroscope to ChatGPT or Claude, then tell it what you ate. Gyroscope saves each meal to your food log and works out the calories, protein, carbs and fat, so any chat can pull up your history and help plan your next meals.

Three ways to do it

A plain chat is fine for a quick estimate. To track over weeks, your AI needs somewhere to save each meal and a way to look back at it.

WayGood forWhat’s missing
Describe meals in a plain chatA quick estimate for one mealA saved log, so the next chat starts from zero
A separate calorie appA detailed food diaryYour AI only sees it if the app has its own connector
Gyroscope with ChatGPT or ClaudeA food log you add to from any chat or a photo in the app, with full nutrition next to your sleep, weight and workoutsA Gyroscope account and a one-time connection

How it works

Connect once. Add Gyroscope in Claude or ChatGPT and sign in on gyrosco.pe. The MCP Bridge guide has the steps for each app.

Choose what to share. Your food log is included, and you decide whether your AI can log meals for you.

Tell it what you ate. Type it, or share a photo of a receipt or a menu. Each item lands in your food log, and Gyroscope works out the nutrition the same way it does for a meal you snap in the app.

What it looks like

You: Log lunch: a chicken burrito bowl and an iced tea.

Claude: Added a chicken burrito bowl and an iced tea to your Gyroscope account as lunch at 12:40. The full nutrition will be on your timeline in a moment.

What your AI can see

Your food log for the days it asks about: each meal with its calories, protein, carbs and fat, your targets, and your trends across weeks or months.

It sees only what you allowed when you connected. It can add meals but can’t edit or delete anything, and you can disconnect any time from Connected apps in your Gyroscope account.

Things to ask

  • Log a flat white and a croissant for breakfast.
  • Log everything on this receipt as lunch.
  • Was I under 2,000 calories on average last week?
  • Plan a week of dinners that hit my protein target, then make the shopping list.
  • What patterns do you see in my meals lately?

When Gyroscope is a good fit

A good fit if you want a food log that lasts, you use more than one assistant, or you want your meals next to your sleep, weight and workouts.

Not the right fit if you only want a rough number for one meal, since a plain chat does that. For a medical nutrition plan, talk to a dietitian or your doctor.

Questions

Can ChatGPT track my calories?

ChatGPT can estimate a meal on its own, without a food log to save it to. Connect Gyroscope and every meal you mention is saved to your food log with calories, protein, carbs and fat, so ChatGPT can look back over weeks of meals.

Does it work in both ChatGPT and Claude?

Yes. The same Gyroscope account works in Claude, ChatGPT and other apps that support MCP connectors, so a meal you log in one chat shows up in the others.

How accurate are the numbers?

Your log uses Gyroscope’s own food analysis, the same as a meal you log in the app, and you can add details like portion size for more precision. If your AI estimates calories in the conversation, that estimate is the assistant’s own.
