Places makes share cards for your maps, trips, days and stats that are designed to look great anywhere. Sharing where you have been is fun; this guide is about doing it thoughtfully.

What a share card shows

Every card shows exactly what you see in the preview before you share it, nothing more. Cards are images: they do not carry hidden location metadata beyond what is drawn on them.

Think about home

The card most worth pausing on is anything that shows where you live. Maps of your neighborhood, or a stats page listing your most visited place, can reveal your home area. Consider sharing city-level or trip-level cards instead.

Share after, not during

Posting a live location tells people where you are right now. Posting a finished trip tells a better story anyway. When in doubt, share it when you are home.

Links

Some cards can be shared as a link. A link shows only that card, not your timeline or your account, and you can share it with anyone.
