How to track every place you go
Updated October 17, 2026
Short answer
Install Gyroscope Places on your iPhone and leave it running. It records every place you visit, every trip and how you traveled, with no check-ins, on a private timeline and map. Connect it to ChatGPT or Claude to ask about where you’ve been.
Ways to keep a record of your places
If you only need a rough timeline, the location history built into your phone may be enough. The difference is how much gets captured without you doing anything.
| Way | Automatic | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Check-in apps | No | The places you remember to check in to |
| Photo locations | No | The places where you took pictures |
| Your phone’s location history | Yes | A timeline inside your maps app, depending on your phone and settings |
| Gyroscope Places | Yes | Every visit, trip and walk on a private timeline and map, a passport of your countries and cities, and answers from ChatGPT or Claude |
How Places tracks
Places runs in the background and uses the location and motion sensors in your iPhone to record each stop and how you got there: walking, driving, running, public transport, even boats and planes.
It names the spots you visit, from home and the office to the gym, cafes and restaurants. In your first week it asks about your top places and how you get around, then tracking becomes mostly automatic. It is built for low power, using the motion coprocessor in your iPhone.
What you get
A timeline of every day, a map of everywhere you’ve been, your walks and trips, and a passport of the countries and cities you’ve visited. The free app keeps 30 days of history, and Gyroscope One or Places Unlimited keeps all of it.
Ask ChatGPT and Claude about your places
Connect Gyroscope to your AI with the MCP Bridge and switch Places on while you connect. It stays off unless you turn it on. Then your AI knows the city you’re in and where you’ve been, so trip plans, jetlag and food nearby come with real context.
- Where was I last weekend?
- I’m in Kyoto for the weekend. Where should I eat tonight?
- Which hotels did I get the best sleep in?

Your places stay private
Your location history is stored privately and never sold. You decide whether your AI can see it, and you can turn that off any time from Connected apps in your Gyroscope account. The Places privacy guide covers where your data lives and how to delete it.
When Places is a good fit
A good fit if you have an iPhone and want a complete record of where you go without checking in anywhere.
Not the right fit if you use Android, since Places is an iPhone app, or if you’d rather not keep a location history at all.
Questions
Is Gyroscope Places free?
Yes. The free app tracks your places and keeps 30 days of history. Gyroscope One and Places Unlimited keep your full history.
Do I need a watch or another device?
No. Places uses the location and motion sensors in your iPhone. No watch, ring or other device is needed.
Can ChatGPT or Claude see my places?
Only if you allow it. Places is its own switch when you connect your AI to Gyroscope, and it stays off unless you turn it on. You can disconnect any time.
