Why do my Whoop and Oura scores disagree?

Short answer

WHOOP Recovery and Oura Readiness are different scores, not two readings of one standard measure. They combine different inputs over different time windows and compare them with baselines built by each product. A high score in one app and a lower score in the other can therefore be internally consistent.

They answer different questions

Oura Readiness mixes last night's measurements with sleep patterns and recent activity. WHOOP Recovery centers its result on overnight measurements, sleep need, and sleep quality. The product names sound similar, but their scoring recipes are not interchangeable.

Baselines and time windows change the result

Each app learns its own version of your normal. Oura includes contributors that look across recent sleep and activity, while WHOOP weighs its recovery inputs through its own baseline. A change can matter more to one recipe than the other even when both devices recorded a similar night.

Sync timing can add another mismatch. Compare scores only after both apps have processed the full sleep session and any late edits to bedtime or wake time.

Compare the inputs before the scores

Start with sleep start, sleep end, resting heart rate, HRV, and the activity recorded before bed. If the raw values differ, fit, source selection, or a missing segment may explain the score gap. If the raw values are close, the remaining difference is usually the scoring model.

Treat each score as a summary inside its own app. For cross-device analysis, the underlying trends are more useful than trying to make the headline scores match.

How Gyroscope does it

Gyroscope connects to Oura directly. WHOOP has no direct branded Gyroscope integration, so WHOOP data reaches Gyroscope through Apple Health sync.
