Does Fitbit Charge 6 work with Gyroscope?

Yes, through Apple Health. We get steps, distance, floors, active calories, workouts, VO2 max, sleep with stages, heart rate, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen from Fitbit Charge 6.

Apple HealthData fit: 4/5

Gyroscope has no direct Fitbit integration. We rely on Google’s Health app, which replaced the Fitbit app, to save your Fitbit data to Apple Health. Once it does, it comes into Gyroscope automatically.

Applies to: Any Fitbit tied to your Google account, including Charge 5, Inspire 3, and Fitbit Air.

What we get

  • Steps, distance, floors, and active caloriesAll four are in Google Health’s Apple Health write list.
  • WorkoutsExercise records, with routes where the tracker has them.
  • VO2 maxGoogle’s cardio fitness estimate.
  • Sleep with stagesSleep sessions and stages both sync.
  • Heart rate and resting heart rateBoth are in the write list.
  • Respiratory rate and blood oxygenNightly values.

What stays behind

  • Heart rate variabilityGoogle reads HRV from Apple Health but does not write it back.
  • Skin temperature variationRead-only from Apple Health in Google’s guide.
  • Fitbit’s sleep scoreStays in Google Health. Gyroscope builds its own Sleep Score.

How to set it up

  1. Turn on Google Health’s Apple Health sync. Set up Charge 6 in Google’s Health app with its device setup guidance. Then tap Connections, Apps and services, Apple Health under Add connections, Get started, and allow the categories you want written, following Google’s Apple Health steps. Google requires iOS 16.4 or later.
  2. Connect Gyroscope to Apple Health. Open Gyroscope, open your data sources, choose Apple Health, and tap Allow for every category when iOS asks. If you skipped one, go to iPhone Settings, Health, Data Access and Devices, Gyroscope, and turn it on there.
  3. Check your dashboard. After Google Health’s next sync you should see today’s steps, your resting heart rate, and last night’s sleep with stages. Activity, heart, and sleep grades fill in over the first week.

What you can do with it

Make steps the headline.

Charge 6 is a step counter first, and steps are the best-studied number a wrist device produces. The target where the benefit levels off is lower than you think.

The evidence. Paluch et al., Lancet Public Health, 2022. Fifteen cohorts, 47,000 adults: mortality risk kept falling up to about 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day under 60, and 6,000 to 8,000 at 60 and over.

Insider tipChoose Charge 6 as your steps source and primary device if it is what you wear all day. Then run steps against sleep score in the correlations view.

Resting heart rate is your early warning.

A resting heart rate a few beats above your norm, before you feel anything, is often the first sign of an infection or a training hole.

The evidence. Mishra et al., Nature Biomedical Engineering, 2020. Using Fitbit data from people who later tested positive for COVID-19, elevated resting heart rate and reduced steps flagged the illness before or at symptom onset in most cases.

Insider tipGyroscope calculates resting heart rate from your sleeping heart rate, so it is a nightly value rather than Google’s daily one. Compare it with your own 30-day norm, not with a friend’s.

Use regularity to replace the missing HRV.

HRV does not cross from Google Health, so build your sleep habits around what does: duration, stages, and above all a steady schedule.

The evidence. Windred et al., Sleep, 2024. In 60,977 UK Biobank participants, sleep regularity predicted mortality more strongly than sleep duration did.

Insider tipThe consistent wake time lab runs this as an experiment against your own baseline.

Keep Google’s sync alive.

Gyroscope relies on Google Health writing to Apple Health. If the connection is turned off or Google pauses it, nothing arrives until it resumes.

Insider tipIf data stops, open Google Health with the tracker nearby, pull down to sync, then check Connections to confirm Apple Health is still on. That fixes it nine times out of ten.

Ask your coach what the numbers mean.

With a membership, an AI coach reads this data every morning and writes you a report before you are out of bed. It answers from your own numbers, not from generic advice. Ask why your resting heart rate climbed this week and it will check your sleep, workouts, and what you logged. Health Score shows how your activity, heart, and sleep grades feed your overall longevity estimate.

Common questions

Can the Charge 6 sync with Apple Health?

Yes. Google’s Apple Health guide documents two-way sync, including writing Fitbit steps, workouts, sleep, and heart data to Apple Health. That is the route Gyroscope uses.

Do I still need a third-party bridge app?

No. Google Health writes to Apple Health itself. If you used a bridge app before, turn it off so the same readings are not written twice.

Does every metric reach Gyroscope?

Only the categories Google writes to Apple Health and you allow. Heart rate variability, skin temperature variation, and Fitbit’s own sleep score stay in Google Health.
