How to connect your Garmin Forerunner 265 to Gyroscope
Connect your Garmin account directly, then use the Forerunner 265 alongside your primary device without maintaining a separate dashboard.
The direct Garmin account path is strong, while Garmin's optional Apple Health export leaves out details such as sleep stages.
Applies to: Forerunner 255, 265S, 570, and most recent Forerunners.
Short answer
Gyroscope has a direct Garmin integration. Connect it once and your data joins everything else on one timeline, deduplicated against your primary device. Pair the watch in Garmin Connect using Garmin's official add-device steps, then add Garmin as a data source in Gyroscope.
What syncs
The table inventories Forerunner 265 tracking documented in its official manual. It does not claim that every field is carried by the direct integration. Garmin separately documents which records can also pass to Apple Health.
| Data | Reaches Gyroscope via | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Steps | Direct Garmin integration; also Apple Health | Garmin can also serve as your Gyroscope steps source. |
| Workouts | Direct Garmin integration; also Apple Health | Garmin writes uploaded activities to Apple Health, without the associated GPS track. |
| Walking and running distance | Direct Garmin integration; also Apple Health | Listed in Garmin's Apple Health export. |
| Heart rate | Direct Garmin integration; also Apple Health | Apple Health receives all-day heart rate, but timed activities only get high and low values. |
| Sleep duration | Direct Garmin integration; also Apple Health | Apple Health receives sleep analysis as time asleep and in bed. |
| Sleep stages | Direct Garmin integration | The watch tracks stages, but Garmin does not write stage detail to Apple Health. |
| Heart rate variability | Direct Garmin integration | The watch calculates overnight HRV status. Garmin does not list HRV as an Apple Health export. |
| Blood oxygen | Direct Garmin integration | Sleep Pulse Ox is optional and must be enabled. It is not listed as an Apple Health export. |
| VO2 Max | Direct Garmin integration | The watch estimates running and cycling VO2 Max under documented conditions. |
Garmin Connect's Apple Health export is a separate, optional route. Garmin's official sharing article describes a one-way transfer after the watch successfully syncs while Garmin Connect is open in the foreground. It includes workouts but excludes workout GPS routes, and its Sleep Analysis record does not carry Garmin sleep stages.
Those limits do not define the direct Garmin connection, whose individual fields are not published. They simply explain the “also Apple Health” labels in the table. Forerunner 265 can track the listed running, heart, sleep, and activity signals according to its manual. Connect the Garmin account for the recommended path, then let your chosen primary device control deduplication across the combined day.
Connect it
- Put the watch in pairing mode. In Garmin Connect, open More, choose Garmin Devices, choose Add Device, then Find Nearby Accessories, following Garmin's iOS pairing guide.
- Select Set Up when the Forerunner appears, confirm the six-digit code, and finish the Garmin Connect prompts.
- Open Gyroscope and add Garmin as a data source.
- Complete the Garmin account authorization. If Garmin will be your daily step tracker, select it as the steps source in Gyroscope.
What you get in Gyroscope
Once connected, supported Garmin records can join Apple Health, food timing, weight, productivity, and other sources on the same Gyroscope timeline. Deduplication uses your primary device so the same day is not treated as separate lives in separate apps.
Your Health Score combines heart, sleep, activity, weight, places, computer time, mind, and nutrition signals, with area grades and an accuracy rating. Sleep Score is built from HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep duration when those inputs are available.
The correlations engine is useful for a running watch because it can compare training and recovery signals across the rest of your life. It reports strength, timing lag, rolling windows, high-versus-low day differences, outliers, and a trendline.
Insights to try
- Sleep score on training days vs rest days.
- Resting heart rate vs weekly training volume.
Use days with complete data from both sides of the comparison. Gyroscope needs at least three varying days of overlap before it can calculate the relationship. Keep the definition of a training day consistent across the period you compare. Use the same weekly window for training volume comparisons.
Common questions
Why don't my sleep stages show up in Apple Health?
Garmin's Apple Health export guide lists Sleep Analysis, but not stage detail. Apple Health gets sleep time, while Garmin Connect remains the place for Garmin's stage view.
Does Garmin Connect need to be open for Apple Health?
Yes. Garmin says the app must be open in the foreground to send records to Apple Health. That limitation concerns the optional Apple Health route, not the existence of Gyroscope's direct Garmin integration.
Can Garmin be my steps source?
Yes. Gyroscope's live Garmin integration can be used as your steps source. If you wear multiple trackers, choose one primary source so the timeline can be deduplicated consistently.
Does the direct integration include every metric in the table?
The table describes what the watch tracks, not the unpublished field-level contents of Gyroscope's direct Garmin payload. It intentionally makes no per-field promise about that direct connection.
