How to connect your Garmin Forerunner 965 to Gyroscope

Use Gyroscope's direct Garmin connection to place Forerunner training and daily tracking beside the rest of your health data.

DirectData fit: 4/5

The direct account path is strong, but Garmin's fallback Apple Health export is selective and omits sleep stages.

Applies to: Forerunner 955 and 970.

Short answer

Gyroscope has a direct Garmin integration. Connect it once and your data joins everything else on one timeline, deduplicated against your primary device. First pair the 965 in Garmin Connect through Garmin's documented add-device flow, then add Garmin in Gyroscope.

What syncs

These are metrics the Forerunner 965 tracks according to its official owner manual. The table is not a field-level promise about the direct integration. Garmin's Apple Health article verifies the optional secondary route.

StepsDirect Garmin integration; also Apple HealthGarmin can also be selected as the Gyroscope steps source.
WorkoutsDirect Garmin integration; also Apple HealthGarmin exports uploaded activities, but not their GPS tracks, to Apple Health.
DistanceDirect Garmin integration; also Apple HealthWalking and running distance is included in Garmin's Apple Health list.
Heart rateDirect Garmin integration; also Apple HealthApple Health gets all-day readings, but only high and low heart-rate values for timed activities.
Sleep durationDirect Garmin integration; also Apple HealthGarmin writes sleep analysis without stage detail.
Sleep stages and sleep scoreDirect Garmin integrationThe watch tracks both, but stages do not pass to Apple Health.
Heart rate variabilityDirect Garmin integrationThe watch calculates overnight HRV status. Garmin does not list HRV for Apple Health.
Blood oxygen and elevationDirect Garmin integrationThe pulse oximeter can relate readings to elevation. Neither is listed in the Apple Health export.
VO2 MaxDirect Garmin integrationThe watch estimates VO2 Max for supported running and cycling conditions.

The optional Apple Health path is narrower than Garmin Connect itself. Garmin's official sharing article calls the transfer one-way and says Garmin Connect must be open in the foreground when a successful device sync occurs. Workout records can transfer, but their GPS routes do not, and Sleep Analysis arrives without Garmin's stage detail.

Those documented Apple Health limits are not a field list for Gyroscope's direct Garmin integration. The device table stays at the correct level: it shows what the 965 tracks, then identifies which capabilities Garmin also documents as Apple Health categories. Use the account connection as the main route and keep a single everyday device primary so the merged timeline can handle overlapping records consistently.

Connect it

  1. In Garmin Connect, open More, choose Garmin Devices, choose Add Device, and choose Find Nearby Accessories, using Garmin's official pairing path.
  2. Put the Forerunner 965 in pairing mode, select Set Up when it appears, and confirm the matching six-digit code.
  3. Open Gyroscope and add Garmin as a data source.
  4. Complete the Garmin account authorization. Choose Garmin as the steps source if the 965 is your daily activity watch.

What you get in Gyroscope

A connected Garmin account lets supported running, workout, daily activity, heart, and sleep records join the same timeline as your other sources. Gyroscope deduplicates the merged result against your primary device.

Health Score combines heart, sleep, activity, weight, places, computer time, mind, and nutrition signals. Its area grades and accuracy rating show how complete your dashboard is instead of hiding gaps behind one number.

For recovery context, Sleep Score is built from HRV, resting heart rate, and duration when those inputs are available. Sleep Battery follows seven nights of quality-weighted sleep debt, while correlations let you test how training volume and rest days line up with your own history.

Insights to try

  • Sleep score on training days vs rest days.
  • Resting heart rate vs weekly training volume.

Run the comparisons only when both sides have consistent coverage. With at least three varying overlap days, Gyroscope can report strength, timing lag, rolling windows, high-versus-low day differences, outliers, and a trendline. Keep the meaning of training and rest days stable over the period. Label those days consistently throughout each comparison window, and avoid mixing partial wear days with complete ones whenever possible.

Common questions

Why don't my sleep stages show up in Apple Health?

Garmin's official sharing list includes Sleep Analysis but not stage detail. The 965 tracks stages in Garmin, while Apple Health receives sleep time.

Does Garmin Connect have to stay open?

For the optional Apple Health export, yes. Garmin says Connect must be open in the foreground when the device sync completes. The direct Garmin account is still the recommended Gyroscope route.

Can I keep Apple Watch as primary?

Yes. Keep Apple Watch or your chosen everyday device as primary, then connect Garmin so supported records can join the deduplicated timeline.

Does every listed watch metric reach Gyroscope directly?

The table describes device tracking. Gyroscope does not publish the direct Garmin connection's exact field list, so this page does not promise a per-field direct payload.
