How to connect your Whoop to Gyroscope
Whoop reaches Gyroscope through Apple Health, with supported sessions and measurements but without Whoop's full proprietary detail.
There is no direct integration, and Apple Health receives sessions and selected measurements without full WHOOP sleep-stage, Strain, or Recovery detail.
Applies to: Whoop 5.0, Whoop MG, and Whoop 4.0.
Short answer
Gyroscope has no direct Whoop integration. Whoop data reaches Gyroscope through Apple Health: turn on Whoop's Apple Health sync, and Gyroscope reads what it writes. WHOOP's official integration guide lists the export categories and setup path.
What syncs
WHOOP's current Apple Health documentation identifies the categories below. The same guide explicitly says HRV is not exported, and its separate sleep documentation shows that WHOOP itself calculates stage and Recovery detail that Apple Health does not receive.
| Data | Writes to Apple Health | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sleep sessions | Yes | WHOOP automatically logs sleep sessions. |
| Full sleep-stage detail | No | WHOOP tracks Light, REM, and Deep stages, but does not list stage export to Apple Health. |
| Heart rate | Yes | Includes heart rate during activities such as sleep and workouts. |
| Resting heart rate | Yes | Listed as an exported Recovery metric. |
| Blood oxygen | Yes | Available on supported WHOOP hardware. |
| Respiratory rate | Yes | Listed among exported Recovery metrics. |
| Workouts | Yes | Auto-detected activities can be exported. |
| Active energy | Yes | WHOOP lists active energy among exports. |
| Steps | Yes | Export is optional and must be enabled in WHOOP settings. |
| HRV, Strain, and Recovery score | No | WHOOP does not export HRV, and does not list its proprietary scores as Apple Health exports. |
The Apple Health route is intentionally selective. WHOOP's integration guide separates what it writes from what it reads and explains that imported workouts may be used in place of an automatically detected activity. For Gyroscope, only the WHOOP-to-Apple Health side matters. A category WHOOP merely reads from Health is not a WHOOP export.
WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG are the current hardware generation, while 4.0 uses the same page route. Hardware changes do not create a direct Gyroscope account connection. Apple Health still receives the supported sessions and measurements, not the complete WHOOP experience. Recovery, Strain, HRV, and full stage detail remain notable gaps in this handoff, so the page rates the fit at 3/5.
Connect it
- Update the WHOOP app, then open More, choose App Settings, choose Integrations, and select Apple Health, following WHOOP's documented menu path.
- Tap Connect, choose Turn on all or select individual categories, then tap Allow.
- Open Health, use the Sharing tab to find WHOOP, and confirm that the categories you want are allowed to write.
- Open Gyroscope and add Apple Health as a data source, then grant Gyroscope read access when iOS asks.
What you get in Gyroscope
The Apple Health hop brings supported WHOOP sessions and measurements onto the same timeline as your primary device, food timing, workouts, and other sources. It is a useful partial route, but it does not recreate the WHOOP app inside Gyroscope.
Sleep duration and resting heart rate can contribute context for Gyroscope sleep views. Sleep Score itself is built from HRV, resting heart rate, and duration, so another Health source must supply HRV when WHOOP does not export it. Sleep Battery follows seven nights of quality-weighted sleep debt.
You can still compare the supported data with behaviors and training days. Gyroscope's correlation view can examine time lags, rolling windows, top-versus-bottom day differences, outliers, and a fitted trendline once enough overlapping data exists.
Insights to try
- Resting heart rate vs workout days.
- Sleep duration vs screen time.
Keep the questions tied to metrics that actually arrive through Apple Health. Use the WHOOP app for its own Strain, Recovery, and full sleep-stage views. Consistent sleep wear and a separate source for screen time make the second comparison possible. Compare equally complete tracked days whenever reasonably possible.
Common questions
Is there a native Whoop integration?
No. Gyroscope has no direct WHOOP integration. Apple Health is the route, and WHOOP's support page documents what it can write.
Why is my WHOOP HRV missing in Apple Health?
WHOOP says it calculates HRV as RMSSD while Apple Health uses SDNN, and WHOOP does not export HRV. This is a defined limitation, not a permission you can turn back on.
Will I see WHOOP Recovery or Strain in Gyroscope?
Not through Apple Health. WHOOP does not list those proprietary scores among its exports, so use the WHOOP app when you need those views.
Why did data stop after reinstalling WHOOP?
WHOOP says reinstalling its app requires you to enable the Apple Health integration again. Repeat the connection steps and confirm the write permissions in Health.
